The Garden Grown Nuggets from Peas of Mind have been discontinued. See our Dairy-Free Frozen Entree Reviews for options that are currently available.

In addition to their Veggie Wedgies Fries, Peas of Mind has two other dairy-free, kid-friendly offerings: Garden Grown Nuggets in Original and BBQ.

Each serving (5 traditionally-sized nuggets – 3 servings per box) of Garden Grown Nuggets is packed with Non-GMO Verified tofu, vegetables, whole grains, and all-natural, gluten-free seasonings. But the two flavors are surprisingly different from one another.

For those of you concerned about soy, I’m happy to say that Garden Grown Nuggets use Non-GMO Verified whole soybean tofu – the negative soy research actually centers on soy protein isolates, not whole soy food ingredients. Also, note that some of their products do use dairy, including the Cheese variety of these Garden Grown Nuggets.

Both Tony and I enjoyed these tender on the inside, lightly crispy on the outside bites. They took only about 15 minutes in the oven and no prep work at all – bonus! I paired them with a quick homemade honey mustard (2 tablespoons Vegenaise, 4 teaspoons Dijon mustard, 2 teaspoons honey, and just a splash of apple cider vinegar), but they were moist and flavorful even without the dip.

These Garden Grown Nuggets seemed near perfectly seasoned with mild spices and just the right amount of salt. The tofu taste was lightly noticeable, which was perfectly fine with us. I think these would be wonderful for lunch boxes – simply heat in the morning while getting ready, and pack away for a midday meal.

The BBQ had just a little more kick, but I wouldn’t venture to call them spicy. The flavor was good, though we both liked the Original a bit better. But alas, the texture was quite dry, grainy, bready. Definitely in need of that honey mustard dip!

I scoured the ingredients to ascertain the difference between the Original and BBQ Garden Grown Nuggets. Both use whole soy tofu, vegetables, and seasonings, but there it is – the Original uses brown rice while the BBQ contains corn meal and tomato paste instead. That said, if your little one is a cornbread lover, then the BBQ may be their new lunchtime BFF!

Certifications: They are labeled as gluten-free and vegan, but I didn’t note any certifications on the Garden Grown Nuggets packaging.

Dietary Notes: By ingredients, select Garden Grown Nuggets are dairy-free / non-dairy, egg-free, gluten-free, grain-free, nut-free, peanut-free, vegan, and vegetarian.
